The Family Worship Guides

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

—Deuteronomy 6:4-7

How EXCITING that God has given us, as parents, this responsibility!

Let’s be honest though. Sometimes reading the Bible with your kids can seem overwhelming. Do you ever ask these questions? Where do I start? How do I make the time? I don’t have the Bible knowledge, so how can I teach it to my kids? How can I be consistent? How can I help my kids to know, love, and serve God?

I have been in the same boat and have asked the very same questions. The simple answer that I have learned to remember is this. We need the Bible. We need a plan. We need to start.

Journey One Eighty’s family worship guides will help you get into the Bible, have a plan to do it, and encourage you to start!

What does each FAMILY WORSHIP GUIDE include?

  • A Bible Focus

Each worship guide is focused on a book or books of the Bible. Some days you will read a short passage independent from the rest of the days, but most of the time you will be reading through a book of the Bible. This helps you understand the Bible with greater context.

  • A Hymn Focus

The guides include singing a hymn during the daily worship time, the story behind the hymn, other related songs, and a printable booklet to help learn the hymn. The theme from the hymn also relates to the scriptures, discussion questions, and prayer prompts.

  • Daily Pages

There are Daily Pages that guide you and your family to read a chapter of the Bible, discuss what you read, sing 1-2 songs, memorize a passage of scripture, and pray together.

  • Family Activities

There are three or four family activities in each 28-day guide and one activity in each of the shorter guides. All of them include making a small booklet to illustrate the hymn. The others integrate the theme with art, nature, science, and cooking. These activities also encourage you to teach and discuss what you are learning about God while “doing life.”

  • Memory Verse Tools

Each guide has a passage of the Bible to memorize. It includes memory verse cards to help you hide God’s word in your heart.

  • Song Lists

The song list includes songs that relate to the focus hymn and the book of the Bible. Each song is linked to a video that has music and lyrics for you to use during your family worship time. There is a link to both a YouTube and Spotify playlist. A QR code is also provided if you are using a printed guide.

  • Over 75 Links

Each guide has links to the Bible passages and songs. If you use the guide digitally, these links will come in handy as they link straight to the English Standard Version of each passage and the songs that are suggested for that day.

  • Easy to Use Digitally or Printed

This guide is easy to use on your phone or device. You can upload it to Google, Adobe Acrobat, or the app of your choice. You can have the family worship guide as you travel without having to pack anything extra. It is also easy to print the entire guide or just print the pages you need.

  • Flexibility for Your Family

The family worship guide is planned so that you can complete an entire study in a month, with a couple of days to spare. But it is also flexible. You can work through it at your own pace. No matter what, let it be enjoyable and worshipful for your family rather than a burden or a task or that has to be done. How good it is to grow closer to God with your family!

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you do one of the daily pages each day, it will take 28 days to complete it. Feel free to work at a pace that works well for your family. You may complete a guide in 28 days, or it may take you much longer. Remember, it’s not about just getting it done. It’s about learning, growing, allowing God to work in our hearts, and most importantly to worship God.

  • No, he is not too young. I like to remind myself that it is never too late and it’s never too soon to start reading the Bible with your kids. Even if your child cannot even walk or talk yet, you are forming the habit of family worship. If you start young and continue until they are older, they will have a strong foundation built in their lives.

  • Here are some ideas you can try to keep your little ones involved.

-Coloring sheets that go along with the topic.

-Use play dough to keep hands busy and if they are old enough, they can sculpt people, animals, or other items that might be in the story you are reading.

    -Dance during the song time.

-Twirl scarves around during song time.

-Use pictures from children’s Bibles to show what you are reading from the Bible.

  • Although some kids may act like they don’t want to do family worship, they very likely think this time is very special. To help keep them involved, here are a few ideas.

—Have them learn the hymn or one of the songs on an instrument and allow them to play it while the rest of the family sings.

—Have them read the Bible passage out loud.

—Have them lead a part of the worship time…maybe the discussion, prayer, or memory verse time.
