Day 173 | Shenandoah National Park
After leaving Washington, DC, we headed to Shenandoah National Park in northern Virginia. We drove through the park along Skyline Drive which goes along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We stopped at several overlooks along the way and even went on a mile and half hike to Dark Hollow Falls. I had been craving fresh water streams and clear water during all of our hiking in Romania. I was so excited to go on this beautiful path and finally get a glimpse of and feel the clear, cold mountain water.
It took a little longer than we thought it would for us to travel through the 105 mile long Skyline Drive, so it was dark as we finished passing through. It was nice to see the sunset, but then the fog settled in and it was a little scary. You always hear that you should watch out for deer in areas like this. I experienced the “why” behind that phrase. At one point, one jumped in front of us and we barely missed it. I was very thankful we didn’t hit it. It definitely woke me up and kept me on my toes the rest of the drive!
Shenandoah National Park is beautiful. The layers of mountains you see in the distance is such an amazing piece of God’s creation. The wildflowers, the rushing water, and all kinds of greenery speak of His creativity and power. I’m so glad we had the opportunity go here, and I hope to visit again!
“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.”
Psalm 95:1-5 (ESV)
