Day 65 | Palace of Parliament and Train Ride to Brasov
Day 65, Bucharest to Brasov—Before we left Bucharest, we finally made it to a tour of the Palace of Parliament. The rooms we saw were really pretty. It’s just sad to think of the hardship that having this building built caused so many people in the 1980s. (I wrote about that on day 61.) Thankfully the people of Romania have some sense of pride in the building since they are the ones that built it. The craftsmanship of certain parts of the building are beautiful and definitely something to be proud of.
After that visit, we stopped for breakfast at Handsome Monk Coffee. Nathan really likes their coffee and the girls and I like their muffins. We stopped and ate in the park.
After that we headed home to pack our bags, rode two Ubers to the train station, then took the train to Brasov. This was a unique train experience. It was a an old train…pretty slow and kind of rickety. It was packed with people…we were in close quarters until people started getting off at their stops. The bathrooms were horrible…I’ll just leave it at that.
Even after all of that, it was still a pleasant four hour train ride. The girls are busy on their iPads and I enjoyed listening to podcasts and reading on my own, until they have to go to the restroom. As horrible as the bathroom was, there was a perk. It was at the very back of the train and we could see out the window. I thought that was pretty cool!
We arrived Brasov after dark and took a taxi to our apartment. Arriving after dark is a little spooky, but I think we will end up enjoying it here.
