Days 126 to 131 | Psalm 119

Days 126-131, Brasov

Last week was a pretty “normal” week for us. We did school, made some art, went on a few walks, along with the normal day to day stuff. It was pretty uneventful, but I was feeling a little anxious and discouraged about this season.

One thing we did this week is work on memorizing part of Psalm 119. Toward the end of the week, I decided to read that entire chapter of the Bible.

This was just what I needed. Psalm 119 tells us that God’s Word brings us life, wisdom, delight, strength, goodness, comfort, understanding, hope, direction, joy, light, truth, and peace.

I can use all of those things, can you?

God hasn’t left me empty handed to struggle with worry and discouragement on my own. He’s given me…us…the Bible (and Himself) to turn to. What a gift! The words that I take for granted and forget about so many times are what can bring death to life, uncertainty to wisdom and direction, weakness to strength, sadness to joy and delight, darkness to light, grief to comfort, and worry to peace.

The weekend also brought another interaction with a neighbor. An elderly lady knocked on our door. When the door was opened, she came right in and went to the kitchen. She brought us some chocolate candy and walnuts. She pulled out an old rusty hammer from her bag and began cracking the nuts on our kitchen counter. She spoke Romanian (I think), I spoke English, and we both talked with our hands. I think we both got the general idea of the conversation, but what I can say almost without a doubt is the love and kindness that we were trying to communicate was understood by us both. After a few minutes, she went on her way and I plan to reach out to her again.

I’m so thankful she came and knocked on our door, and I’m so thankful for God’s Word. After a week of dealing with feelings of anxiousness and discouragement, I was reminded (for the millionth time) to turn to God and His Word for peace and direction, and to trust that He is working even when I don’t see it.

“I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life….
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path…
Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” - Psalm 119:93, 105, 129-130
