Day 72 | Brasov Walking Tour On Our Own
Day 72, March 10, Brasov—Today was probably the first day that our activities were affected by the virus. We went to the meeting place for a free walking tour and the guide said that they were stopping the tours until further notice because of the virus. It was a bit disappointing, but understandable and not a huge surprise. The guide was very friendly and told us the places she was going to show us so we could do the tour on our own. We found a playground close by and took a few minutes to decide what we would do next.
We didn’t get to hear all the stories our guide would have told us, but we decided to go ahead and visit a few places she mentioned (listed below). After our short tour, we found this cute coffee shop called Woof....with lots of dog-themed decorations....which the girls, especially Naomi, loved. This was a fun place to stop for coffee, the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted, and a lemonade with lots of freshly squeezed oranges. Naomi loved it so much that she put it on her birthday (March 17) itinerary:)
On our way home we picked up some craft supplies (getting ready for more time at home). We had dinner at home, made crafts, and had Game Night!
•St. Nicholas Orthodox Church—the Orthodox churches we’ve been in usually for not let us take pictures. They look different than many of the others church buildings we’ve been in. They are dark and much smaller than the building seems from the outside. There was also a cool cemetery just outside the church.
•The First Romanian School—we walked past this, but I didn’t take a picture. I’ve heard that the teacher there happy to share his wealth of knowledge, but he only speaks Romanian.
•St. Catherine’s Gate—this is a medieval gate to the city...one of the only original of its kind.
•Rope Street—one of the narrowest streets in Europe. After a fire damaged much of Braşov in 1689, this street was made to connect the two parts of the city so they could fight fires more effectively. It’s called Rope Street because it’s close to the Ropemakers’ Guild.
