Day 59 | First Glance of Bucharest
Day 59, Bucharest, Romania—Since we got in late the night before, we stayed at the airport hotel, The Hilton, so we wouldn’t have to find our apartment late at night. It was actually really nice to stay there for the night....the towels were nice and thick and the bed was so comfy! What a treat!
After lunch we took an Uber (my very first one) to our apartment, relaxed a bit, walked around the city a little bit, stocked up on groceries, then ate and relaxed at home.
I don’t know what most of these buildings are, but I’ve read that Bucharest is known for its eclectic architecture. There is a little bit of everything here when it comes to the style of buildings. A contemporary facade placed on old buildings. Old Communist housing. French style architecture. At one point, it’s nickname was “Little Paris of the East”.
Above is a memorial that represents the people who lost their lives during the 1989 Revolution. This piece is actually controversial with the people of Bucharest because of its unusual design.
At our first glance, the city definitely doesn’t have the “oh you have to visit Bucharest” feel. But after learning about it’s history and spending a few days here, it has grown on us a bit. There is beauty here.
