Day 21 | Schonbrunn Palace

Adjustments.jpeg

Day 21, Vienna—On our first day in Vienna we went to the Schonbrunn Palace. We couldn’t take pictures inside this one:( The outside was not as ornate as Versailles, but the inside was still fit for a king. Here they gave each of us an audio guide to listen to. The info was interesting and the girls loved it too!

It was cold and rainy outside, but we still decided to walk through the palace gardens and to the top of the hill. It was work, especially with kids. But we made it and it was worth it.

At the top of the hill, there was an ornate structure. It looks like it could have been used for special occasions and possibly for parades or other ceremonies or celebrations. Those are just my guesses though.

The Schonbrunn Palace was the summer house for the Habsburgs, the Austrian monarchy. Maria Theresa was a significant ruler here during the 1700s. She was also Marie Antoinette’s mother. That means that Marie Antoinette grew up here until she was fourteen years old (1770) when she was married. This was a politically arranged marriage to Louis XVI who became king of France in 1774. It’s interesting how many places are connected in some way.
