Day 15 | Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie
Day 15, Paris—As I’ve said before, Nathan and I spent two months in France and Italy almost 17 years ago. It’s been interesting to see what I remember and compare how places are different than they were then. Today we visited Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie. I barely remember visiting Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie has changed a lot, for the better....it has so much interesting information about Marie Antoinette’s last days as a prisoner. Sainte Chapelle is beautiful too...I can’t believe I didn’t remember much of it.
Sainte Chapelle—This chapel was built by the 12-year-old King Louis IX to hold the Crown of Thorns that Jesus wore when He was crucified. (We really don’t know for sure if it’s really the one He wore though.) The crown is now at Notre Dame (at least before the fire) but the beautiful stained glass windows are a sight to see too. They depict over 1,000 scenes from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.
The Conciergerie—This palace became a prison during the French Revolution and is the last place Marie Antoinette stayed before her death. Around 4,000 people were imprisoned here during the time of the war.
We also had a delicious meal out. French onion soup, croque madame, an omelet, and steak with potatoes. The girls have done such a great job of trying new foods! This meal was amazing!
